As a child, I was always getting bored in a circus. Everything smelled funny, the seats were awkward, I was afraid that something might happen to the acrobats and the clown never managed to crack the joke for me. Thus, the last time I can remember myself in a circus was perhaps at the age of 10 or 12, at most.

Thus, the last time I can remember myself in a circus was perhaps at the age of 10 or 12, at most. Howbeit last summer, when I returned in one after years of absence, reluctantly and with an interest mostly photographic, it all made sense. In my new eyes, the oversized scene with the finely tuned show didn’t seem unbearably boring anymore but the allegory of an ideal life.

Here, all beasts remain obedient in their cages, the acrobats will be saved in the end no matter how many risky numbers they attempt and at all times, a clown will appear in the midst of it all only to remind you to laugh or not take yourself too seriously.

This is how I managed, for the very first time, to see myself happy as a child while visiting a circus, certain that this illusion of a life optimal will last for at least two hours.
